All ECI Projects

Oxford University Climate Leadership Research Centre

This four-year, impact-oriented project will investigate how leaders across politics, business, and sport can play a vital role in driving climate action.

01 October 2025 - 01 October 2030

Pathways to Flexibility: Understanding household energy demand pathways through knowledge integration and data triangulation

The Pathways to Flexibility project explores how households can play a more active role in the UK’s transition to a low-carbon energy system. By examining how everyday routines, technologies and behaviours shape energy use, it identifies practical ways to support more flexible demand.

01 April 2026 - 01 April 2028

Regional Energy Planning and Heat

The Regional Energy Planning and Heat project explores how Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs) are shaping the transition to low-carbon heat across Great Britain. Focusing on how planning is organised, governed and delivered in practice, it examines how different actors, capabilities and forms of knowledge influence outcomes.

01 March 2026 - 01 March 2028

EDOL: Energy Demand Observatory and Laboratory

EDOL collects and shares high resolution energy-related data from 2000 representative households. A smaller number of households will take part in experiments with new technologies, business models and policy interventions.

01 January 2023 - 31 December 2027

PRISMA: Net-zero pathways with advanced modelling

The PRISMA project aims to advance integrated assessment models by focusing on distributional justice and efficiency, innovation and finance, climate impacts and land-use, and lifestyle change and circularity.

01 January 2023 - 31 December 2026

CircEUlar: Circular economy and net-zero pathways

The CircEUlar project explores the dynamics and levers for societal transformation towards a net-zero emission circular economy.

01 September 2022 - 31 August 2026

iDODDLE (Impacts of Digitalised Daily Life on Climate Change)

iDODDLE is investigating if the digitalisation of our daily lives helps or hinders efforts to tackle climate change.

01 September 2021 - 31 August 2025

ELEVATE: Innovative Light Electric Vehicles for Active and Digital Travel

ELEVATE explores the potential of existing and new forms of e-micromobility, identifying the people, places and circumstances where they will be most useful in order to reduce mobility-related energy demand and carbon emissions.

01 June 2021 - 31 May 2025

Clean Heat Streets

Clean Heat Streets (CHS) aims to install 150 heat pumps into the Rose Hill area of Oxford over a two year period, do so inclusively, fairly and without causing problems on the electricity distribution network.

01 July 2022 - 31 March 2025

GoZero: SME governance for net-zero

GoZero aims to provide a robust evidence base to support the multi-level governance of SME decarbonisation across the four UK nations.

01 September 2022 - 30 April 2024

UKERC Phase 4: Energy for Mobility

The energy and mobility theme of UKERC Phase 4 projects focuses on where transport decarbonisation efforts are generating acute technological and governance challenges for the energy system, especially at the local level.

01 May 2019 - 30 April 2024

NAVIGATE: Integrated assessment modelling to support climate policy

By tackling existing weaknesses and lack of capabilities in the current generation of integrated assessment models, the NAVIGATE project provides new insights into how long-term climate goals can translate into short-term policy action.

01 September 1999 - 31 December 2023

CREDS: Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions

CREDS is a multi-institution research centre looking at how reductions in energy use can support the transition to a net-zero society, and move to an energy system that is secure, affordable and sustainable.

03 March 2018 - 31 December 2023

Energy Superhub Oxford

Energy Superhub Oxford (ESO) aims to eliminate 10,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year – the equivalent of taking 2,000 cars off the road.

01 January 2019 - 01 January 2023

DeViz

DeViz uses thermal imaging as a behaviour change tool to inform, empower, and engage site supervisors to help them achieve zero defects in their buildings.

01 January 2020 - 01 January 2023

Project LEO (Local energy Oxfordshire)

Project LEO was an ambitious, wide-ranging and innovative energy trial, seeking to accelerate the UK’s transition to a zero-carbon energy system.

01 January 2019 - 01 January 2023

NEWCOMERS

Researchers from six European countries worked with clean energy communities to explore how they engage citizens, create value and share learning.
