As the complexities of the world's challenges grow, a more integrative and cross-collaborative research approach has become increasingly necessary.
In addition to eight research programmes at the ECI, and two research units, we also have researchers working across disciplines in partnership with colleagues close to home and globally.
Environmental research is itself a multidisciplinary field that studies the complex interactions between the environment and natural and human factors. Increasingly in the last two decades we have seen an increase in work that spans traditional disciplines and in approaches seeking holistic and innovative solutions.
Research that incorporates these different disciplinary perspectives can lead to new understandings that wouldn't be possible if experts worked only in their own discipline. Such research can foster creativity and innovation by combining a variety of viewpoints and specialities, creating a diverse team and encouraging open communication.
At the ECI we are always looking for complementary areas of research and collaborative partnerships. We recognise the value of sharing ideas, theories, and practices and believe multidisciplinary research to be crucial in addressing environmental issues.
