Katherine is an Early Career Researcher and obtained a PhD in Geography from University of Glasgow in April 2021.
Her research is concerned with urban sustainability, with a particular interest in the governance of low carbon and inclusive transitions at the local level. She is concerned with the multiple governing actors involved in low carbon and just transitions, the implementation of urban projects in practice, and challenges encountered and overcome.
Katherine joined the Environmental Change Institute in September 2022 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. She currently works on GoZero, a project funded by UKERC which examines the governance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) for net zero across the UK's four nations.
Alongside her work at the ECI, Katherine also works at the School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh. She is Cohort Lead on the Masters in Energy, Society and Sustainability. She is also undertaking research on finance and public procurement for net zero and has a particular interest in local authority governance. As part of her role at Heat and the City, Katherine has undertaken research on Energy Efficient Scotland project, which investigated the learning experiences of 25 pilot projects led by local authorities across Scotland to support delivery of Scotland's climate change targets.
Outside academia, Katherine has a background working in the energy sector, having worked as a data analyst and GIS technician at Scottish Power and Project Manager of renewable energy developments at Temporis Wind.
