Amr is a researcher in building energy demand and use, evaluating building retrofit performance from an occupant-centric perspective and the new ways of working. He holds a bachelors degree in Architectural Engineering and a masters degree in Low Energy Building Services Engineering. His PhD research at Loughborough University looked into optimising the energy performance of building heating systems and the use of IR thermography for fault detection and system diagnostics for timely interventive maintenance. He is currently in involved with organisations such as The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and is part of a number of technical committees.
Research interests
Amr's main area of research looks into monitoring and evaluating the performance of spaces from an occupant-centric perspective by undertaking post-occupancy evaluations. His other main research interest is employing IR thermography to assess building fabric performance and undertaking system diagnostics. During his masters studies, his thesis looked into leapfrogging towards renewably powered distributed energy systems in Sudan.
