ECI led a theme in the third phase of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) looking at challenges in energy decision-making, including governance, actor decision-making and systemic interactions.
The transport sector is responsible for 40% of UK final energy consumption, 98% of which is fuelled by oil. Energy consumption in the transport sector peaked in 2007, but has increased by almost 6% since 2013. Projects in this theme targeted areas where transport decarbonisation efforts are generating particularly acute technological and governance challenges for the energy system, especially at the local level.
Projects
- International supply chains for vehicles and batteries
- Interactions between sectors in the delivery of low carbon aviation and shipping
- Energy pathways for emerging mobility systems
- Ecosystem service outcomes of transport electrification
- Sustainable Transport and Planning Electric (STAPLE)
- Preparing the power network for electric vehicles
