PortWatch is a new, high-impact online portal to monitor and simulate trade disruptions due to climate extremes and other shocks.
The IMF and OPSIS researchers, principally Dr Jasper Verschuur, developed PortWatch, to monitor and simulate trade disruptions due to climate extremes and other shocks. Using satellite-based vessel data and big data analytics, the platform helps policymakers, analysts, and other public stakeholders assess the impact of disruptions to maritime trade. Adaptation of ports is urgently needed, and quantified risk analysis can help prioritise investments and enhance the business case to accelerate adaptation finance.
