Dr. Xiaoxi Wang is a Junior Professor (tenure-track) at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Management and the China Academy for Rural Development at Zhejiang University, one of China’s leading universities. He also serves as a Guest Senior Scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) in Germany and an Affiliated Editor at World Development.

Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Humboldt University of Berlin. Trained as an agricultural economist, his research focuses on critical challenges in food systems, addressing topics such as climate mitigation and adaptation, agricultural trade, and food security. He employs empirical methods, economic modeling, and integrated assessment modeling to generate actionable insights. He has published extensively in leading journals, including Nature Food, Nature Aging, Lancet Planetary Health, World Development, Ecological Economics, Environmental Research Letters, Nature, Nature Climate Change, and Nature Sustainability. His research bridges academic rigor with practical policy relevance, making significant contributions to sustainable development and climate change mitigation.

As a core developer of the global agro-economic land system model MAgPIE (Model of Agricultural Production and its Impact on the Environment), Dr. Wang has enhanced its capacity to assess global challenges and leads its regional applications, particularly through the development of MAgPIE-China, a China-specific country version of MAgPIE. His work with MAgPIE has informed strategies for climate adaptation, sustainable land use, and food system sustainable development. Through his leadership in MAgPIE-China, he has provided valuable insights into the sustainable transformation of regional food systems in China.
