Dr Scott Thacker

Profile

Dr Scott Thacker is an Honorary Research Associate of the Environmental Change Institute, University of Oxford and Director of Oxford Infrastructure Analytics (OIA). His research focusses on the development of systems-based methodologies and tools to support the strategic planning of sustainable and resilient infrastructure.

In his role at OIA, Scott is developing solutions to quantify insights into the resilience of interdependent infrastructure networks to natural hazard and climate risks, and the potential economic and social disruption caused by infrastructure failures. The work is being used to prioritize the steps to enhance the resilience of infrastructure systems and to build the business case for a strategic approach to adaptation. OIA provides solutions for a variety of use cases, including national governments, international financial institutions, international organisations and the financial services sector.

Alongside his work with infrastructure practitioners, Scott is an active member of the academic community and regularly publishes research on the topics of: strategic infrastructure planning; sustainable, resilient and inclusive development; climate mitigation and adaptation; infrastructure network vulnerability and risk analysis; and infrastructure systems analysis. In 2014 he was awarded the ICVRAM Young Scientist Award and in 2015, the Society for Risk Analysis Merit Prize.

Scott holds a PhD in infrastructure systems modelling from the University of Oxford, an MSc in hydro-informatics and water management from Newcastle University and a BEng in civil engineering from Loughborough University.
