Profile

Dr Chris Jardine is an Honorary Research Associate at the ECI, specialising in solar power, microgeneration and wider energy systems issues.
Chris has been at the ECI since 2000, and was actively undertaking research until 2010.  His main research outputs include:
•    The PV-Compare project – the first side by side test of solar PV systems in the UK was instrumental in proving the #viability of solar power under the UK’s cloudy skies
•    40% house – Chris contributed the section on microgeneration to this seminal work on decarbonising the UK housing stock
•    Methane uk – a dedicated report looking into technologies and policies for reducing of methane emissions from agriculture, waste, coal mining and natural gas infrastructure
•    Power from the People – a critical review of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme
•    SUPERGEN Highly Distributed Power Systems – part of a consortium project looking at whether an electricity system can run off small-scale renewables alone.

Chris co-founded Joju Solar in 2006, which has since grown to be one of the largest and most respected solar companies in the UK.  Whilst this time commitment led to Chris having to give up the research side, he continued to lead the energy teaching on the MSc in Environmental Change and Management from 2006-2024.  Chris is passionate about education and inspiring a new generation about energy.

Chris is now working in a freelance capacity under the umbrella chrisjardine.energy  Chris is developing energy education content for training courses and dissemination through his own YouTube channel .  Chris is also a passionate and engaging speaker in demand for university and public lectures alike, as well as events hosting.  Chris is also available for consultancy on solar and battery storage projects and business advice in the Greentech space.
