OPSIS teaching materials are designed to enable people to develop a rigorous understanding of infrastructure systems and climate risk analysis, and to apply the software tools and datasets that we have developed.
Open University Course on Infrastructure and Climate Resilience
This course introduces infrastructure systems and climate risk analysis using NISMOD tools. It includes modules on sustainable development, climate resilience, and nature-based solutions.
Participants who complete the course and apply NISMOD tools to research projects and studies, can obtain NISMOD proficiency badges (Bronze, Silver and Gold) to certify their new expertise.

Flatpack Initiative - An Introduction to Infrastructure and Climate Resilience with NISMOD
This Teaching Kit provides learning materials for an introductory course on using NISMOD tools to comprehensively study infrastructure systems analysis, climate risk assessment, and resilience planning by combining academic and practical aspects. It includes editable lecture slides, hands-on exercises, sample learning objectives, and a suggested course timetable.

Energy Modelling Platform (EMP) training
The OPSIS team have delivered EMP training in Africa (2025) and Asia (2026) with the National Infrastructure Systems Modelling for Climate Resilience (NISMOD-CR) course, covering risk assessment, NISMOD tools, and data visualisation. This is implemented as part of the Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) Programme funded by UK Aid.
An EMP event is a three week-long training event, composed of one week of online training and two weeks of in-person training. The online training aims to consolidate the skills that the participants have obtained in completing the OU course. Then the in-person training can focus primarily on applying those technical skills to develop a case study comprising a specific policy application of relevance to their country.
