Zambia’s social protection system is failing to respond effectively to recurring crises, such as drought and disease outbreaks, which deepen poverty and make communities more vulnerable.
New research reveals key weaknesses in the system, including inadequate funding, weak coordination and slow response mechanisms.
Dr Roosa Lambin, Researcher with the ECI’s Global Finance and Economy programme is one of the experts are calling for proactive solutions, such as developing weather forecasting, more comprehensive population registers for targeted interventions, better integration, sustainable financing and a stronger legislative framework, to enable Zambia to protect its population in times of crisis.
