We were saddened to learn of the death of Sir Tony Cleaver earlier this month. As a major supporter of the founding of the Environmental Change Institute, his role in shaping our early direction is deeply appreciated.

Prof Martin Parry, the first Director of the Environmental Change Unit (ECU), the precursor to the ECI, from 1991 to 1994, said:
The generous support we received during my time at the ECU was instrumental in shaping the institute’s early direction and laying the foundation for the world-leading research carried out at the ECI today. It enabled us to build a truly interdisciplinary team focused on tackling the urgent challenges of environmental change.
I was very sorry to hear of Sir Cleaver's passing — his contribution left a lasting legacy.”
