The Environmental Change Institute (ECI) at the University of Oxford has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) to strengthen academic and research collaboration.

The MOU document held up after being signed by Professor Michael Obersteiner, Director of the ECI, and Professor Li Xiangdong, Dean of the Faculty of Construction and Environment at PolyU

The MoU provides a framework for collaboration across areas including urban systems, energy and environment, public health, climate resilience, artificial intelligence and data science, and policy and governance. It will support opportunities for joint research, academic exchanges, events and future funding applications.

The MoU was signed at the University of Oxford on 23 July by Professor Michael Obersteiner, Director of the ECI, and Professor Li Xiangdong, Dean of the Faculty of Construction and Environment at PolyU, following the Nexus Forum 2026 on Collaborative Innovation for Smart Sustainable Development.
