Teaching: International Graduate School

The ECI has taught over 650 postgraduate students on its doctoral and masters programme's since 1994. Our masters in Environmental Change and Management is one of Oxfords most competitive and popular science graduate courses attracting over 10 applicants for each place on the course. We also host around 30 high-calibre doctoral students within our research programmes.

MSc Environmental Change and Management

The ECI's flagship MSc programme aims to train international leaders in all aspects of environmental change and management. The quality and quantity of applicants continues to grow and the geographic origins of our students continues to expand. The course aims to produce students with a broad appreciation of all aspects of the management of people and institutions in relation to environmental change, who are analytical in their approach, and are competent and aware decision makers. Successful applicants develop an in-depth understanding of not only the causes and consequences of environmental change, but also an awareness of the legal, economic and ethical underpinnings of remedial action or management.

Doctoral studies

The ECI's doctoral students are admitted to the DPhil in the School of Geography and the Environment and become affiliated to the ECI through supervision or work on one of ECI's funded projects. Our doctoral students come from all over the world, from a range of disciplines and many work directly with the ECI research programmes. We currently have a cluster working on tropical forests, energy policy and climate adaptation.

The network provides an opportunity to build professional relationships, mentoring opportunities as well as an active social environment for our past students. We maintain regular contact with our alumni through events such as the annual Alumni Dinner, Alumni Drinks, email newsletters and increasingly through social networking.

The ECI is grateful to its alumni for providing an ever expanding resource for our current students, through dissertation topics and supervision, internships, scholarship support and general support.
