Researchers at the ECI are developing imeasure: an easy-to-use online tool for accurately measuring and monitoring home energy use and carbon emissions over time. imeasure v1 was developed during 2007 and version 2.1 is currently available online at: www.imeasure.org.uk.
Users of imeasure are required to input weekly gas and electricity readings along with data about the household and energy types. The data is then converted into carbon and information displayed graphically to the users along with an overall carbon rating for the household. Individuals can form carbon groups to monitor their energy usage over time and compare directly with their friends.
Users of imeasure will be contributing to cutting edge research in energy issues. The research of the Energy Group at the Environmental Change Institute is focused on developing a better understanding how the UK can significantly and rapidly reduce energy use and carbon emissions through behaviour change, technologies and policy interventions. There is very limited good household data to do this work well so we designed imeasure to help the energy research community.
The more imeasure users there are the better our analysis of the data can be – so please do get involved and encourage your friends and colleagues to do the same.
