Views of the Amazon

LBA Project

LBA is an international research programme led by Brazil, and considered the largest project of international scientific cooperation ever created in the environmental area. It arose by way of international agreements and is financed by the principal Brazilian funding agencies, with additional funding from NASA and the European Union.

The project is centered on two key questions:

  • How does Amazonia currently function as a regional entity?
  • How will changes in land use and climate affect the biological, chemical, and physical functions of Amazonia, including the sustainability of development in the region and the influence of Amazonia on Global climate?
