ECI Researchers at COP

Alumni Dinner in Bali

ECI are sending a record number of staff and doctoral students to the COP meeting in Bali. This reflects the increasing relevance of ECI research in the climate change policy arena.

We are also pleased to hear that a record number of alumni from the ECI's MSc Environmental Change and Management are travelling to Bali to represent their countries and sectors in professional capacities. This year we know of at least 15 alumni from a mix of nationalities, organisations and sectors. View list and profiles below.

Alumni at COP

Over 15 alumni from ECI's MSc in Environmental Change and Management will be taking part in COP13 in Bali. Details of some of the alumni due to attend are given below:

Dr. Takeshi Takama (Alum 02) joined Stockholm Environment Institute / Oxford centre as a research fellow after he completed his DPhil (PhD) at School of Geography and Environment and MSc at ECI, University of Oxford. Currently, he researches and leads various projects related to environment and development, climate change, and human behaviours. He will be attending COP13 due to his involvement in the EU7th project ADAM (Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies: Supporting European climate policy), to present a poster at a SEI/FAO side event, and to launch a collaborative climate adaptation platform, weADAPT.org.

Alex Conliffe (Alum 05) will be in Bali with the International Institute for Sustainable Development Earth Negotiations Bulletin (IISD ENB) team. She will join a team of four writers covering side events at the COP/MOP as part of IISD's Earth Negotiations Bulletin - On the Sides coverage.

Mike Mason (Alum 95) founded Climate Care in 1997 pre Kyoto Agreement. Since then, the company has become the market leader in the development and retail of voluntary emissions reductions. The company supplies throughout the retail market from consumers to some of the world’s largest brands [Mike Mason] In 2006 Mike founded Pioneer Carbon, a sister company to Climate Care and based in Nairobi. Pioneer Carbon is a project originator and developer of voluntary and compliance market credits. Pioneer has established some major new initiatives in the arena, including a potential 28 million tonne coal to biomass initiative in China.
