Arthur studied environmental studies at his masters and received his PhD in sociology from the University of Amsterdam. He is at the moment professor in environmental policy and chair of the Environmental Policy department at Wageningen University, the Netherlands.
Research Interests
Arthur's research interest and work is in the environmental social sciences, strongly focusing on Environmental governance, Industrial transformation, Globalization and the environment, Social theory and the environment, and Environment and the Information Society.
Current projects:
- Biomass-based energy production in rural areas of developing countries (with a special focus on East Africa and China)
- Environmental governance in the Information Society: informational governance
- Urban water governance in China
- Innovating Urban Environmental Infrastructures in East Africa: modernized mixtures
Teaching
Most teaching relates to supervising master thesis students in environmental studies and social sciences and supervising PhD students.
Recent Publications
Recent publications have focussed especially on environmental governance in China, on the development of an environmental sociology of networks and flows, and on Environment and the Information Society. The full list of publications can be found on the University of Wageningen's website.
